BCWCA Donates to Variety

Date: June 2, 2008

The BC Wall and Ceiling Association recently presented Variety - The Children's Charity of BC - with a $52, 544 donation, toward the purchase of a Sunshine Coast van for the Richmond Society of Community Living.

BCWCA Executive Director Murray Corey says the association chose Variety as the recipient because it's a great cause and is well-recognized for its work in the community. "The BCWCA has always made donations to children's charities," says Corey, "but this was a much bigger and new venture for us."

The Sunshine Coach program benefits BCÕs children who have special needs. Some are 7 and 15 passenger vans, others are converted by raising the roof and installing a wheelchair lift, and some are 24 passenger buses. Without them, many children would not have the opportunity to participate in community activities, attend therapies easily and socialize with other children.

In the past 15 months over 30 organizations have applied to Variety for a Sunshine Coach, and Variety provides for all of them through the support of individuals and organizations like the BCWCA.

The association raised the funds by email over three weeks through its membership distribution list, an impressive testament to the fundraising committee's efforts and association members' generosity.

BCWCA was presented with a certificate as a token of Variety's appreciation, and a letter of thanks which recognized the association for "bringing a little 'sunshine' into the lives of BCÕs children."

Recipients of the van - the Richmond Society for Community Living - were present when the cheque was presented, and took part in a photo opportunity and a chance to thank those members involved in the fundraising campaign through Variety.

Murray Corey would like to thank all members who were involved and especially John Pattinson for his leadership role in this worthwhile contribution to the community.
